Feng Shui: 4 Steps to Balance Your Home (with Kion Home®)
What is Feng Shui? How does it influence the decoration and layout of a home?
Feng shui (Wind and Water in English) is a doctrine originating in China that establishes the foundation for harmonious spaces and their elements, that is, they must present balance and generate positive energy. This energy benefits those who occupy the space. In the case of the home, applying feng shui to the layout and decoration of elements benefits those who live there.
This doctrine is based on the existence of Chi energy and ensuring its unimpeded flow. Various factors affect the flow of energy, such as the landscape and the environment. Therefore, once Chi reaches a home, it must respect its passage through the different spaces. How? We give you four tips that you can easily apply.
1: The importance of a good entrance hall
Whether narrow or wide, the hallway is the first thing you see when you enter your home. We use it to enter the home, and so does the Chi energy. Therefore, we must consider several Feng Shui aspects (organization, decoration, and mirrors).
- It's easy for an entryway to accumulate objects in a haphazard manner, but it shouldn't be neglected. In Feng Shui, order and cleanliness are essential. In the entryway, the number of items should be reduced and they should be well organized. One way to do this is to use vertical space with shelves or appropriate furniture. This allows us to remove obstacles that obstruct the energy in the midst of welcoming people home. Vertical decoration is also a good choice.
- Decor is also key. Try to follow the five elements and include elements like a metal piece of furniture, a candle, or a wooden frame. Plants are good allies in a Feng Shui entryway. Add items that carry emotional weight, like a family photo or a souvenir from a trip. Creating a welcoming atmosphere is a good idea. Mirrors are practical in the entryway, but make sure they don't reflect doors or stairs, and prioritize rounded or oval shapes.

Rhodas Hallway – This minimalist yet useful piece makes the most of vertical space in a narrow hallway. You can combine it with a bowl to store keys, glasses, etc., and use the space below to store shoes or umbrellas. You can also add Feng Shui decor such as a floating round mirror or a small plant.
2: The light
In Feng Shui, light represents the flow of Chi energy. The more and higher the quality of light , the more Chi energy there is in a space. In the rooms of a home, the following three factors must be taken into account:
- Light source : This can be natural or artificial . In a home, prioritize natural light, or if it's artificial, it's preferable for it to be warm and soft to create a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.
- Temperature : It can be warmer (orange tones) or cooler (blue tones). Unlike natural light, in the case of artificial light we can choose and control its temperature. In spaces like the bedroom or dining room, avoid cooler tones, which are stimulating and can be appropriate for an office. Warm, soft light (not too powerful) brings calm and comfort.
- Quantity : The more natural light, the more energy. Try, as much as possible, not to block natural light. Take advantage of the natural light sources in your home and enhance them. For example, arrange furniture around a large window or add translucent vinyl to a bathroom window instead of opaque or blackout curtains. Let the light penetrate and flow so that, with it, the energy flows.

Alysa Shelf – floating shelves are a great alternative to traditional shelving. Their versatility when mounted on the wall allows you to adapt the layout to light sources, such as windows. The shelf is available horizontally or vertically, making them perfectly combinable.
3: The 5 elements (earth, wood, fire, water and metal)
Live plants and flowers are essential in Feng Shui decor, as they represent vital energy. However, a balanced space should include all five natural elements (earth, wood, fire, water, and metal). Each element benefits the energy of the space and should not dominate another. These can include:
- By themselves (a vase with soil).
- Through the materials (a wooden table).
- Through symbolism such as colors (blue to represent water).

4: The bedroom
The bedroom is one of the most important spaces in the home. It's intimate and personal and allows us to rest. A good bedroom layout and decoration can help you relax and sleep better. Keep these four things in mind:
- The bed should not be aligned with or facing away from a door or window. This would block Chi energy. Also, prioritize placing the headboard against a wall or solid surface. The headboard should also be solid; avoid bars.
- Don't place heavy objects or large lamps on the bed. This creates a feeling of insecurity and disrupts calm.
- Place a mirror, but don't overdo it. Ideally, there should be no more than two. Try to position it so you don't see your reflection while sleeping. Don't place it so it doesn't reflect the door either.
- Opt for analog devices over electronic or digital ones. The latter disrupt natural energy and should be avoided in rest areas.
- Colors matter. Opt for neutral or warm colors. Cool colors shouldn't be ruled out, but avoid brightness and harshness. Prioritize soft tones (sky blue or sage green). Also avoid stimulating patterns.
